According to the Wikipedia, the term Web 2.0 describes the changing tendency in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design and web development that aim to boost and enhance creativity, communications, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web.
The term Web 2.0 became more popular and famous after O’Reilly Media held a conference in 2004. A brainstorming session on that conference between O’Reilly and MediaLive International has led to the beginning of the Web 2.0 concept.
Web 2.0 is the business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as a platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.
Although you can think of the Web 2.0 as a new version of the World Wide Web, it does not assume any upgrade or update to any technical specifications. Rather it refers to changes in the ways web designers, software and web developers as well as end-users use the Web.
